I think it's important to tell you guys why I decided to go to law school. It's also important for me because I have never really sat down and wrote out exactly why I decided to get my JD. I have always been someone who needs to push herself. I thrive on success and praise. For me, I decided early on that success would mean getting my JD. I love school. I love organization and color coding. And I love the praise I get when people hear I'm going to law school (lets be honest who doesn't?). It really became real for me however, when my dad decided to go to law school. I was 14 and had two younger brothers and a mom with cancer. All of us vying for my dads attention. My dad recognized that he needed to be able to do better by us. He had tried to go to law school before but life got in the way. Now he was going back and he was going to finish what he started. I watched my dad go through law school. I stayed up with him through late night study sessions and I quizzed him with flashcards before exams. I even went to class with him some nights! (he went to law school at night and had a full time job during the day) When I watched him walk across the stage four years later I realized that I owed it to him to follow in his footsteps. Now that I am officially enrolled in law school and preparing for it I realize that this all sounds right up my ally! I can't wait to be in class taking notes and learning to think like a lawyer. I'm also scared. Everyone likes to say how incredibly tough 1L year is and from everything I have read so far they're not wrong. It is going to be crucial for me to stay on top of everything but I think I can do it! Anyone else going to law school in the fall? Sound off in the comments!
